Vayle Releases Second Annual State of Freedom of Information (FOI) Report for Ontario Municipalities

Building on our commitment to advancing knowledge sharing within the FOI community, Vayle conducted extensive research, which has now been expanded to encompass broader perspectives within the public sector. This initiative empowers entities across Canada with the necessary knowledge to effectively manage FOI requests in today’s digital landscape.
The report provides a detailed analysis of FOI practices within Ontario municipalities, exploring the evolving demands placed on local government bodies and revealing trends in FOI request volumes, response times, and common challenges. Other topics covered including resourcing and productivity metrics, as well as opinions on utilizing artificial intelligence to support FOI request processing.
The findings from the 2024 report were presented by via a live webinar in partnership with the AMO. Shaun McIver, CEO of Vayle, hosted the well-attended session with municipal FOI professionals from across the province. Panelists included municipal clerks and privacy leaders from the City of Oshawa, the City of Thorold, and the Township of South Glengarry.
