About Us
Vayle is a fast-growing Toronto-based tech company that has rapidly emerged as the leading Freedom of Information (FOI) platform for local government in Ontario. We are now expanding into new markets across Canada, with a bold vision to empower public sector organizations in managing complex information access and privacy needs. Our innovative solutions are transforming the industry, setting new standards for FOI and privacy compliance software, and have become indispensable to our highly loyal customer base. We are also expanding our product suite to address a wider range of privacy compliance needs, further strengthening our position as a trusted partner in the public sector.
Our goal is to become the de facto standard platform for information access and privacy compliance for the public sector, starting in Canada, with an ambitious vision to expand into global markets.
About the Role
We are seeking a Privacy & FOI Product Lead who brings expertise in privacy legislation and FOI processes across, ideally at all levels of Canadian government — including municipal, provincial, and federal. This is a high-impact individual contributor role that blends product leadership, privacy expertise, and hands-on execution across customer engagement, onboarding, training, and product development.
Reporting to the Founder and CEO, you will be at the forefront of shaping the future of Vayle’s FOI and Privacy software (Vayle FOI and Vayle PIA), collaborating closely with both our public sector clients and internal development teams. You’ll interpret complex compliance requirements, distill them into clear product needs, and help prioritize and deliver exceptional product experiences.
This role is ideal for someone who is customer-obsessed, adaptable, comfortable wearing many hats, and eager to lead product efforts in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the voice of the customer, gathering and synthesizing feedback from municipalities and government agencies to drive product direction.
- Define and prioritize product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for Vayle FOI, Vayle PIA, and our routine disclosure module.
- Collaborate directly with developers to ensure features meet functional and compliance requirements.
- Lead onboarding and training for new customers, ensuring smooth transitions and deep adoption of both applications.
- Actively contribute to product roadmap planning and backlog grooming, balancing strategic initiatives and day-to-day customer needs.
- Translate complex privacy and FOI and privacy legislation into user-friendly workflows and product logic.
- Leverage AI tools to accelerate requirements definition, summarization, and research tasks.
- Conduct privacy risk assessments and ensure the software supports evolving legislative compliance needs.
- Represent Vayle at customer meetings, demos, implementation workshops, and compliance discussions.
Required Skills and Qualifications (Must Haves)
- Deep subject matter expertise in Canadian FOI and privacy legislation, ideally across multiple levels of government (municipal, provincial, federal).
- Experience working within the public sector, especially in privacy, access to information, records management, or IT.
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities in a fast-moving environment with limited structure.
- Comfortable using AI tools to enhance productivity, insight gathering, and documentation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in customer-facing roles, with a strong emphasis on consultation, training, and onboarding.
- Received IAPP or similar privacy industry certifications (e.g. CIPM/CIPP, etc.).
Preferred Skills (Nice to Haves)
- Previous experience in a product management or business analysis role, even if unofficial.
- Background in privacy compliance tooling, records management software, or FOI case management platforms.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and writing user stories or functional requirements.
- Ability to create customer training materials and lead workshops.
Soft Skills
- Self-starter with a builder’s mindset; you like to roll up your sleeves and make things happen.
- Excellent listener with strong empathy for public sector challenges.
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and finding structure in complexity.
- Highly collaborative and energized by working closely with cross-functional teams.
