Vayle’s Third Annual Survey to Explore FOI and Privacy Trends for Alberta and Ontario Municipal Entities
We are excited to announce that Vayle will soon commence work on our highly anticipated 2025 State of FOI Report, marking the third year of this important initiative. Building on the success of previous reports, this year’s analysis will not only cover Ontario but will expand to include insights from Alberta, offering a broader perspective on Freedom of Information (FOI) practices across Canada.
In addition to exploring the latest trends and challenges related to MFIPPA and FOIP, we’re taking a significant step forward by incorporating privacy-related topics into the survey and analysis. The expanded scope will address critical issues such as:
•Privacy Programs
•Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA)
•Privacy Breaches
•Privacy Education and Training
•And other relevant topics shaping the privacy landscape in Canada for municipal public sector entities
This expansion reflects our commitment to helping public sector organizations navigate the evolving intersections between FOI and privacy compliance.
Ontario Results Webinar with AMO in Spring 2025
We are thrilled to share that the Ontario-specific findings from this year’s State of FOI and Privacy Report will be presented in a live webinar hosted in collaboration with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). This exclusive event, scheduled for Spring 2025, will provide participants with actionable insights, benchmark data, and recommendations tailored to Ontario’s MFIPPA and FIPPA regulations.
This webinar is a valuable opportunity for municipal leaders, FOI coordinators, privacy officers, and other stakeholders to better understand current trends and best practices in FOI and privacy program management.
Alberta Results at the AMCA Conference in April 2025
For Alberta participants, we are excited to announce that the Alberta-specific findings will be unveiled at the Alberta Municipal Clerks Association (AMCA) Conference in Canmore, taking place from April 23 to April 25, 2025. This presentation will provide Alberta municipalities with insights and strategies to address their unique FOIP and privacy challenges. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of local trends and best practices while networking with peers in the municipal sector.
Expanding Our Focus: Why Privacy Matters
As FOI and privacy become increasingly interconnected, organizations face new challenges in balancing transparency with protecting sensitive information. By expanding the scope of our report to include privacy-related topics such as Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) and breach management, we aim to provide a comprehensive resource that supports public sector organizations in meeting their dual obligations under FOIP, FIPPA, and other privacy laws.
